Virginia Mae Hemmah, 73, Mitchell, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Firesteel Healthcare Center, Mitchell. She was born on Nov. 22, 1939.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell. Services will also be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Veblen. Burial will be in Veblen Cemetery, Veblen.
There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service today at the church in Veblen.
Virginia Vedder, daughter of Steve and Irene (Erickson) Vedder, was born in Veblen.
She grew up and attended school in Veblen. After her schooling, Virginia was employed as a nanny in Claremont.
Virginia was united in marriage with Carmen Hemmah on Oct. 18, 1957, in Webster.
The couple made their home on a farm near Claremont and later moved to Philip for two years. They then moved back to Claremont, where Virginia raised chickens and sold eggs.
Carmen died in 1976, and Virginia moved to Veblen and was employed at a nursing home in Sisseton. She later moved to Mitchell.
In Mitchell, she was employed at Syncom and Firesteel Healthcare Center.
In May 2008, Virginia became a resident at Firesteel Healthcare Center.
Virginia loved to dance, play whist and Yahtzee. She also enjoyed embroidering and cooking.
She was member of First Lutheran Church in Mitchell and a former member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Veblen.
Grateful for having shared her life are her four children: Melody (Calvin) Olson, Mitchell; Carmen (Brenda) Hemmah, Salem; Jim (Barb) Hemmah, Mitchell; and Marylce (Carl) Knock, Mitchell; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a brother, Albert Vedder, Ortonville, Minn; three sisters: Patty Kadown, Sioux Falls; Karen (Roger) Loberg, Anoka, Minn.; and Barb Staehnke, Ferndale,Wash.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carmen Hemmah; her parents, a grandson, a granddaughter and her in-laws, Rudolph and Bertha Hemmah.
