Lezlie Blasius, 53, Kimball, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, of cancer.

Lezlie Blasius, 53, Kimball, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, of cancer.

She was born on Dec. 18, 1959.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kimball School Gymnasium. Burial will be in St. Margaret’s Catholic Cemetery, Kimball.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Kimball, with 7 p.m. rosary and wake services.

Mount Funeral Home, Kimball, is assisting with arrangements.

Lezlie Renee (Mentzer) Blasius was born to Darold and Vonna (Grieve) Mentzer in Wessington Springs.

She grew up on the family farm north of Gann Valley.

She attended Highland Country School, Gann Valley School and graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1978. She then went on to attend classes at SDSU and Mitchell Vo-Tech.

She moved to Kimball and was united in marriage to Wade Blasius on July 21, 1984, at which time she joined St. Margaret’s Catholic Church.

In Kimball, she worked in business with her father for several years, overseeing the office at Kimball Livestock Exchange and clerking auctions, while managing the Horseshoe Bar and Mentzer Antiques.

She was also employed at Central Dakota Times and later found her passion in teaching at Kimball School, where she had worked for the past 15 years.

For many years, she enjoyed coaching track, basketball and cheerleading, as well as summer baseball and softball. Through teaching and coaching, many children were able to share her love for life.

Lezlie’s life revolved around loving and supporting her husband and four children. She took great pride in her family and cherished all the times they spent together. Her caring and giving spirit inspired all those around her.

Grateful for having shared Lezlie’s life are: her husband of more than 28 years, Wade Blasius, Kimball; their four children: Weston (Liz) Blasius, Sioux Falls; Kristen (Thomas) Konechne, Platte; and Waylon Blasius and Jada Blasius, both of Brookings; her parents, Darold and Vonna Mentzer Wessington Springs; three sisters: Julie (Kim) Schultz, Wessington Springs; Tami (Jeff) Higgins and Sandy (Shayne) Kjellsen, all of Broken Arrow, Okla.; her mother- and father-in-law, Glenn and Francis Blasius, Kimball; and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her grandparents, Lawrence and Jenny Grieve; and Harold and Blanche Mentzer.
