Arthur Schaefer, 96, Mitchell died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Firesteel Healthcare Center, Mitchell.
He was born on May 28, 1916.
Services will be at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.
Art was born on a farm near Mount Vernon.
He served our country during World War II.
He returned to South Dakota and married Alma Goldammer on Oct. 2, 1946.
He retired from the Mitchell Post Office in 1981.
He was an excellent problem solver and could fix anything.
Art and Alma moved to Firesteel Health Care Center in 2006.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children: Shirley (Dave) Burkhardt, Eugene, Ore.; Ronald (Mary) Schaefer, Mitchell; grandchildren: Christopher (Jamie) Schaefer, Yankton; Mark (Katrina) Burkhardt, Eugene; Mary (Dade) Johnardt, Eugene; Samantha Schaefer, Mitchell; Kim Schaefer, Sioux Falls; and Jon Schaefer, Brookings; and seven great-grandchildren.
Art was preceded in death by his wife, Alma; a grandson, Matthew Burkhardt; and his brothers and sisters.
