Ruth Gurney Bateman, 95, Mitchell, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Firesteel Healthcare Center, Mitchell.
She was born on July 13, 1917.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell.
Ruth Lucille Bateman was born at Yankton to Cassius and Estelle (Spink) Gurney.
She grew up and attended schools at Yankton and Mitchell.
She was a bookkeeper in the military and lived in Augusta, Ga., France, the Philippines, Sioux Falls and then retired in Mitchell.
She was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and First United Methodist Church in Mitchell.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Woodside, Mitchell; two granddaughters, Ziantha Stroud, Mitchell; and Roberta Woodside, Mitchell; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Judson; two brothers, one sister and her son, Donald Irwin.
