Reta M. Cole, 79, Platte, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Good Samaritan Society, Corsica.

She was born on May 20, 1933.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Olive Presbyterian Church, Platte, with the Rev. Mark Frame, Platte; and the Rev. Josh Kendrick, Redfield, officiating. Burial will be in Platte City Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Vicki Erickson is the organist and Chris Nepodal is the soloist.

Casketbearers are Loren Cole, Mitch Cole, Ben Sanger, Dustin Pinkman (Cole), Ross Anderson and Randy Robertson. Honorary bearers are Reta’s younger grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mount Funeral Home, Platte, is assisting with arrangements.

Reta Muree (Howard) Cole was born to Lawrence and Lyla (Hampton) Howard in Platte.

She graduated from Platte High School in 1951 and attended Yankton College for one year.

On Dec. 16, 1953, she was united in marriage to Myron Cole in Platte.

The couple lived and worked in Platte for a time, then began farming west of Platte. She was employed in several Platte businesses.

Reta was a devout member of Olive Presbyterian Church, and served as a church elder and Sunday School superintendent, as well as sang in the church choir. She served as a lay minister for several area churches and sang for more than 300 area funerals.

She was also a 4-H leader, played for a rhythm band at the Platte Nursing Home and was a “second mom” to many young people over the years.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Myron Cole, Platte; a son, Kelly Cole and special friend, Gloria Goebel, Lisco, Neb.; a daughter, Arleen and husband Dennis Sanger, Rockham; a son, Dellas Cole and wife Margie, Brookings; and a daughter, Joline and husband Phil Thomas, Marion; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Reta was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law.
