Richard “Dick” Rezac , 61, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Richard “Dick” Rezac , 61, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

He was born Aug. 21, 1951.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. A visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave., with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., and a Liturgical Wake Service at 7 p.m.

Dick, the son of Leo and Ruth (Mikolash) Rezac was born in Dante. He graduated from Wagner High School in 1969. Dick then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Constellation as an electrician during the Vietnam Conflict. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Dick attended Mitchell Technical Institute to earn his Electrician’s Certificate.

On Dec. 22, 1973, Dick was united in marriage with Allene Wiechmann in Wagner. They were married for 17 years. He was employed as an electrician for various companies while the family lived in Mitchell, Yankton, and Sioux Falls. Dick eventually became involved with elevator installation and repair, which he did for more than 30 years. He retired from Otis Elevator in 2010, but had gone to work for Rain and Hail as a crop adjuster for the past two years.

Dick was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his nephews. He was very proud of his grandkids, and was also very fond of garage sales.

Grateful for having shared his life are a son, Jamie Wiechmann of Sioux Falls; three daughters, Danielle Rezac, Kelly Rezac, and Kari (Josh) Westenkirchner, all Sioux Falls; six grandchildren, Burkley, Emily, Makenzie, Jack, Josephine, and Austin; his mother, Ruth Rezac of Sioux Falls; a brother, Randy (Jackie) Rezac of Mitchell; two sisters, Kathy (Reed) Forster of Sioux Falls, Lori (Dennis) Blaha of Rapid City; his former wife, Allene (Jerry) Rezac Toupal of Sioux Falls; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo.
