John Headley, White Lake

John Robert Headley, 81, White Lake, formerly of Rapid City, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Aurora Brule Nursing Home, White Lake.

John Robert Headley, 81, White Lake, formerly of Rapid City, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Aurora Brule Nursing Home, White Lake.

He was born on Sept. 29, 1931.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. today at Osheim and Schmidt Funeral Home, Rapid City, with the Rev. Doug Diehl officiating. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post No. 1273 and South Dakota National Guard.

John Robert Headley was born to Hershel and Helen (Taylor) Headley in Linton, Ind.

He attended school and graduated from high school.

He then joined the United States Air Force in 1953 and spent 3 ½ years at the Rushmore Air Force Base (Ellsworth) in Rapid City.

He married Dorothy Faye Uthe on Nov. 20, 1955, at Presho, where they farmed for 29 years and John also worked for Anderson Gas for several years.

He retired and they moved to Rapid City, where John worked and was a manager for Rodchester Armored Car Service for nine years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, member of Rapid City Masonic Lodge No. 25 for 50-plus years, was on the board of Eastern Star Home in Redfield, member of Eastern Star Golden Link Chapter 14 in Rapid City, and member of Pierre and Fort Pierre Model Airplane Club.

John enjoyed woodworking and building model airplanes and boats after he retired. He truly enjoyed his grandchildren.

Survivors include one son: Randy (Bernadine) Headley, Kennebec; two daughters: Joanne (Jerry Wingert) Headley, Pukwana; and Helen (Wade) Smook, Brandon; four grandchildren: Aaron, Amanda, Jessica and Nicholas; one great-grandson: Omari; and one brother: Raymond (Kyle) Headley, Terre Haute, Ind.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 2009; and his parents.
