Noem: McGovern a 'South Dakota institution'

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem says former U.S. Sen. George McGovern was a South Dakota institution who will be greatly missed.

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem says former U.S. Sen. George McGovern was a South Dakota institution who will be greatly missed.

McGovern died in Sioux Falls early Sunday at the age of 90.

Noem says in a statement that McGovern has inspired countless Americans to get involved in the political process. She says he will be remembered for his passionate commitment to South Dakota and to hungry people of the world.

On a personal note, Noem says McGovern was always "unfailingly kind" to her. She says his presence will be greatly missed in South Dakota.
