Dora Mae Yellow Hawk, 92, Herrick, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010.

Dora Mae Yellow Hawk, 92, Herrick, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ, Bonesteel. Burial will be in Ponca Creek United Church of Christ Cemetery. Wake services will begin at 11 a.m. today until service time Thursday at the church.

Mason Funeral Home, Winner, is handling arrangements.

She was born on Aug. 28, 1918, at home southwest of St. Charles to Annie Poor Man.

She was raised by her grandparents, the Canes, after the death of her mother and sister.

She attended day school at Milk’s Camp and Marty Indian School.

On July 8, 1935, she married Christopher Yellow Hawk at Burke.

She worked various jobs, including the potato fields in Clark, topped sugar beets in Belle Fourche and worked at Milk’s Camp Industries.

She also worked at Yankton Sacred Heart Hospital and in a bomb factory at Hastings, Neb.

She is survived by her daughter, Mercedes; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two great-grandsons, a great-great-granddaughter, her mother, two sisters: Evelyn and Mamie; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law.
