Leona Wilhelmina Kuyper, 91, Aurora Center, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Douglas County Memorial Hospital, Armour.
Leona Wilhelmina Kuyper, 91, Aurora Center, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Douglas County Memorial Hospital, Armour.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Aurora Reformed Church, Aurora Center. Burial will be in Aurora Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Koehn Brothers Funeral Home, Stickney, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
She was born April 23, 1919, in Douglas County to William and Mary (Noteboom) Vanden Hoek.
She attended Bultje School and, after graduating from eighth grade, she attended Harrison Academy for a short time.
On March 8, 1937, she married Loyd Kuyper in Mason City, Iowa.
They farmed near Aurora Center until her husband died on July 31, 1964.
She continued to live on the farm until 1990.
After living in Stickney for 17 years, she moved into Good Samaritan Center, Corsica.
She is survived by four children: Audrey Van Genderen, Stickney; Doris Herbst, Mount Vernon; Leon Kuyper; San Francisco; and Kevin Kuyper, Mayville, Wis.; seven grandchildren, a great-grandson and a sister, Martha Lefers Smits, Wyoming, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Sharon Barrows Baird; her parents, 11 siblings: Tony Vanden Hoek, Gertrude Zylstra, Martin Vanden Hoek, Della Feenstra, Esther Den Besten, Benjamin Vanden Hoek, Evarene Cady, Ivan Vanden Hoek, Naomi De Vries Keuning, Edith Vander Ley and Quintin Vanden Hoek; and three sons-in-law: Kenneth Van Genderen, Virgil Herbst and Larry Baird.
