George Hofer, Freeman

George M. Hofer, 94, Freeman, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hutterthal Mennonite Church, Freeman. Private family burial was held on June 21, 2010, in Hutterthal Mennonite Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Walter Funeral Home, Freeman.

George M. Hofer, 94, Freeman, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton.

He was born on May 14, 1916, in Freeman to Mike and Anna (Gross) Hofer.

On Jan. 24, 1937, he married Margaret L. Hofer at her father’s home near Dolton.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Yvonne Schnarr and husband Dale, Stillwater, Minn.; two sons: George, Bonita Springs, Fla.; and Rodney and wife Roberta, Lawrence, Kan; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother, Melvin Hofer, Bismarck, N.D.; a sister, Grace Hornig, Pierre; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers: Edward, Walter, Sam, Jake and Clarence; and four sisters: Evelyn Gross and husband George; Edna Davis and husband Mark; Mary Tschetter and husband Ferd; and Ruth Steffen and husband Robert.
