Alfred Frederick Schelske, 92, Reliance, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Sanford Mid Dakota Care Center, Chamberlain. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Chamberlain. Burial will be in Reliance Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Hickey Funeral Chapel, Chamberlain, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1918, to Ed and Mary (Ott) Schelske.
He attended Roosevelt Country School southwest of Reliance.
In 1941 and 1942, he worked at Douglas Aircraft in San Diego, Calif. He returned home to farm with his father and later bought the Schelske Homestead.
On Sept. 22, 1945, he married Edna Wagaman.
They made their home on the ranch, where they raised registered Hereford cattle. They attended many Hereford shows and sales.
He was one of the directors of the Big Bend Hereford Association.
In 1986, he was named Lyman County Rangeman of the year. He served on the Bailey Township Board.
He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Reliance, where he served as secretary and trustee for many years.
He is survived by his wife, five daughters: Jeanie Wolcott and husband Lenny, Reliance; Kathy Randall and husband Bill, Chamberlain; Nancy Larson and husband Steve, Kimball; Debbie Volmer and husband Ron, Presho; and Laurie Michels and husband Steve, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Violet Burull-Borr, Riverside, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Adolph, Elmer, Bob, Elsie Smith, Betty Felback, Maletha Williams, Mary Jensen and an infant brother.
