Alferd Moeller, De Smet

Alferd B. Moeller, 91, rural De Smet, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society, De Smet.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard. Burial will be in De Smet City Cemetery, De Smet. Visitation will begin at noon today at the funeral home with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.

Alferd B. Moeller, 91, rural De Smet, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society, De Smet.

He was born on June 8, 1919, at Flandreau to Ferdinand and Mary E. (Richardson) Moeller.

After living in the Blunt and Canning areas for a number of years, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in the Belle Fourche area before moving with his parents to the Matthews Township area in 1939.

On Jan. 7, 1943, he married Dorothy F. Gehm in Carthage.

They lived and farmed south of De Smet all their married life.

He was also employed by De Smet Rendering Plant a number of years in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

He is survived by two sons: Richard, De Smet; and Roger and wife Gwen, Howard; five daughters: Dianna Moeller, De Smet; Virginia Spillman and husband Guy Sr., Augusta, Kan.; Ann Meyer and husband Bob, Huron; Holly Weigel and husband Donovan, Plainfield, Ill; and Grace Marsden and husband Bruce, Lewistown, Mont.; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren and a number of stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a sister, Rosella Hegdahl; a brother, Walferd; and a half-brother, Russell Richardson.
