Clara H. Huber, 86, Herreid, died Friday, July 2, 2010, at Linton Hospital, Linton, N.D.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Herreid. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Herreid. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the church, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge.
She was born Dec. 22, 1923, at the family farm east of Zeeland, N.D., to Joseph and Eva (Baumgartner) Hartze. She grew up on the family farm and attended Zeeland High School, graduating in 1942.
After high school, she attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, N.D. After completing accounting and secretarial school, she worked in Minneapolis and Chicago. During World War II, she worked in the shipyards as a welder in Portland, Ore.
She married Arthur Simon Huber on Dec. 27, 1945, in Portland. They lived in Portland until he was discharged from the Merchant Marines in 1947. They moved to Herreid and lived east of there. They bought a farm three miles southwest of Herreid in 1948.
She began working at Good Samaritan Center, Herreid, as an aide in 1975 and retired in 1988. She and her husband moved to Herreid in July 1990. She moved to Good Samaritan Center, Herreid, in October 2007, and lived there until her death.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Society.
She is survived by four daughters: Yvonne Walsh, Watertown; Elaine, Sioux Falls; Rhonda Zaug and husband Allen, Watertown; Paulette, Mitchell; four sons: Tom, Terrell, Texas; Don, Herreid; Roger, Ethan; and Paul and wife Gina, Aberdeen; 25 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, David; her parents five brothers: Matthew, Jacob, Francis, Joseph and Michael; and three sisters: Katherine Salwei, Christine Czeczok and Bernadine Kendall.
