Giles Greenway, 85, Mitchell, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell.
Giles Greenway, 85, Mitchell, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.
He was born on July 2, 1924, on a farm north of Mount Vernon to William and Elsie (Swancott) Greenway.
He attended country schools and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1943.
He had farmed northwest of Mitchell since 1943.
On Nov. 24, 1946, he married Lillian Olson at United Methodist Church in Mitchell.
He served on several country school boards, Mount Vernon School Board, Beulah Township Board, and on federal land bank boards in Mitchell and Omaha, Neb.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters: Gwen Tillotson, Mitchell; and Lavelle DeKramer, Canistota; a brother, Tom and wife Janice, Mitchell; a sister-in-law, Lilas Greenway, Mitchell; two daughters-in-law: Dawn Greenway and Mary Lou Greenway, both of Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Ron and Robert; his parents, a brother, William; his mother- and father-in-law, Hans and Lela Olson; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Twombley; and a daughter-in-law, Char Greenway.
