DeLos Elmer Everson, 82, Loomis, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell.

DeLos Elmer Everson, 82, Loomis, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell. Burial will be in American Legion Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

He was born on April 1, 1927, in Mitchell to Elmer and Jenny (Parker) Everson.

He grew up in the Loomis area and attended school in Letcher.

He entered the U.S. Navy on May 24, 1945, and served as ship’s cook third class. While in the service, he received the World War II Victory Medal before being injured on a mine sweeper during his tour of duty. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 18, 1949.

On Feb. 8, 1948, he married Bonnie Taylor in Mitchell.

They lived on a farm near Loomis until 1961, when they purchased a farm a half-mile west of Loomis, where he farmed the rest of his life.

He was a member of Loomis Congregational Church and American Legion in Letcher.

He is survived by two sons: Denny and wife Jan, Yankton; and Darwin, Mitchell; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a brother, Paul and wife Margaret, Mitchell; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Pueppke, Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a brother, Carle.
