Ruth Helen Berglund, 85, Valley, Neb., formerly of Mount Vernon, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at Golden Living Center Valhaven, Valley, Neb.

Ruth Helen Berglund, 85, Valley, Neb., formerly of Mount Vernon, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at Golden Living Center Valhaven, Valley, Neb.

Funeral services were Feb. 1, 2010, at United Methodist Church, Albion, Neb. Burial was in Schuyler Cemetery, Schuyler, Neb.

Levander Funeral Home, Albion, Neb., was in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Oct. 9, 1924, near Mount Vernon to Andrew and Lillie (Frahm) Miller.

She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1942.

After high school, she cooked and cleaned for a family. She also worked at an egg candling factory.

On March 21, 1946, she married William “Bill” Devern Berglund at Methodist Church, Mount Vernon.

They made their home in the Schuyler area, where they farmed. They moved to Albion in 1965 and ran the Downtowne Motel, opening RuBi’s Café in 1982.

She also worked part-time in retail at various times.

She is survived by eight children: Michael and wife Marsha, Ashville, Ala.; Ronald and wife Joann, Syracuse, Kan.; Donald and wife Mary, LaVista, Neb.; Stewart and wife Normay; and Bradd and wife Sherry, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Curt and wife Lisa, Albion, Neb.; Leeta Cruise and husband Kurt, Omaha, Neb.; and Carma Dirkschneider and husband Pat, Fremont, Neb.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a brother, Gilbert and wife Arlene, Mitchell; a sister, Phyllis Koch and husband Noel, Milford, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to any of the following: Albion United Methodist Women-Kitchen Project (605 W. Marengo St., Albion, Neb.); Golden Living Center Valhaven (300 West Meigs St., Valley, Neb.); Albion Good Samaritan Society, (P.O. Box 271, Albion, Neb.); or the charity of your choice.
