Opal Johnson, Bridgewater

Opal Johnson, 99, Bridgewater, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at Diamond Care Center, Bridgewater. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.

She was born on July 19, 1910, in Mount Vernon to Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Marble.

She grew up in Mount Vernon and attended school there, graduating from Mount Vernon High School in 1928.

She attended Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, where she received her teaching certificate.

She taught school in Aurora and Davison counties for two years.

On June 5, 1935, she married Jesse S. Johnson at Mitchell.

They lived on a farm north of Mount Vernon, where they remained until 1989.

In 1990, she moved to Plankinton, where she lived until 1997. She lived at Storla Sunset Home until it closed in 2004. She then became a resident of Diamond Care Center.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 19, 1990; and her parents.
