Norbert Neugebauer, 82, Mount Vernon, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, following a lengthy illness.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Dimock. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.
Norbert Neugebauer, 82, Mount Vernon, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, following a lengthy illness.

He was born on Oct. 5, 1926, on the family homestead to Ernest and Bertha (Herbst) Neugebauer.
He attended elementary school at Baker 42, near the family farm. After completing the eighth grade, he helped run the family farm.
In 1945, he entered the U.S. Army during World War II as a German interpreter and was a member of the 147th Airborne Division. He was honorably discharged in 1947.
On Sept. 11, 1948, he married Betty Rose Baier.
They took over the family farm. He also sold seed corn for Asgrow Seed Company.
He was a member of American Legion, Farmer’s Union, St. John’s Lutheran Church and had served on the church board and Baker 42 school board.
His wife died in 1998 from Alzheimer’s disease.
He is survived by five children: Tom and wife Deb, Mitchell; Darrel and Dale, both of Mount Vernon; Bev Hoenke and husband Charlie, Parkston; and Colleen Stegenga and husband Doug, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and his 12 siblings.
