Maxine Loraine Nelson, 86, Lake Andes, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at Wagner Community Memorial Hospital, Wagner. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Lake Andes. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Lake Andes. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Koehn Brothers Funeral Home, Lake Andes.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1923, on a farm southwest of Lake Andes to Leo and Rachael O’Conner.
She attended country school southwest of Lake Andes.
She worked as a hired girl for many neighbors.
On March 11, 1943, she married Nels P. Nelson at Hartington, Neb.
They farmed south of Lake Andes for 63 years.
Her husband died on April 4, 2006.
She is survived by five children: Donald, and Kenneth and wife Judith, all of Lake Andes; Barbara Eddleman and husband Gary, Boulder, Colo.; Jean Frothinger and husband Richard, Rapid City; and Judy Golightley and husband Jim, Elizabeth, Colo.; eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and a sister, Helen Brooks and husband Wayne, Lake Andes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters: Bernice Minahan, Ilene LaVallie and Vivian MacElroy; and three brothers: Rod, Melvin and John O’Conner.
