Howard Wold, Mitchell

Howard Wold, 83, Mitchell, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Firesteel Healthcare Center, Mitchell.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery, Mitchell.

He was born in Sioux Falls to Albert and Stella (Steineke) Wold.

He graduated from Washington High School in 1944 and from the University of South Dakota in 1950 with a degree in economics.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force Dec. 22, 1943, and served as a gunnery instructor. He was honorably discharged May 5, 1946.

He married Donna M. Frankman in 1948.

From 1950 to 1957 he was employed as an insurance adjuster for Western Adjustment.  He began working for Farmland Insurance in 1957, retiring from there in 1993.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters: Linda Moon and husband Rick; and Laurie Doherty and husband Barry, all of Sioux Falls; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard and his wife Jeanne, Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ada Nelson.
