Art for SD public buildings

Artist Dale Lamphere’s piece “Tall Grass” stands outside the Joe Foss Building in Pierre as part of the Art for State Building program. The program is appropriated $20,000 each year to purchase the works of South Dakota artists who submit proposals to add to the state’s permanent collection. Lamphere and four other artists donated their work to jumpstart the program with the condition that the Legislature appropriate money each year to sustain it. The South Dakota Arts Council is currently accepting proposals from artists to sell their work to the state for this year’s program. (AP Photo/South Dakota Arts Council)
