James Abdnor, Saturday, May 19, 2012 in Pierre, S.D. Abdnor was best known nationally as the South Dakota Republican who ousted Democratic Sen. George McGovern from the Senate in 1980. But those who spoke at his funeral said Abdnor was a humble man who loved talking with people, served as a mentor to many and adopted many young people into what was an extended family.
