This photo shows the 400 and 500 blocks of North Main Street as they appeared in 1911. In the left-hand corner is 401 N. Main St., which was a large boarding house. Another boarding house was located at 413 North Main. On the east side of the street are two white buildings; it’s unknown what they housed. The Elks Lodge was on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Main Street. Notice the Corn Palace is in the process of being decorated. The motif of the decorations had been changed to an Egyptian design for the first time. North of the Corn Palace was the G.A. Vermilyan Feed Store. (Photo courtesy Mitchell Area Historical Society)
