Mad Dogs earn first trip to state

PIERRE — Losing its district opener might have been the best thing for the Mitchell amateur baseball team. The Mad Dogs dropped a tough 8-7 game to Watertown in the opening round of the District 3A tournament, but bounced back with a 5-3 win against Watertown Sunday to claim second place in the district and earn its first trip to the state tournament, which begins Friday in Yankton.
