Douglas County sheriff pleads not guilty

Douglas County Sheriff Troy Strid entered a not guilty plea Thursday afternoon to a theft charge in First Circuit Court. Appearing in the Douglas County Courthouse courtroom where he usually acts as the bailiff, Strid spoke only a few words when questioned by Judge Tim Bjorkman, who conducted the initial appearance hearing by speaker phone. Strid and his lawyer, Tim Whalen, of Lake Andes, waived Strid’s right to a jury trial and instead asked to be tried by the judge. The trial was set for July in the Douglas County Courthouse.
