District 19 lawmakers try for spot in opposite chamber
District 19’s state legislative races include a pair of lawmakers trying to switch chambers because of term limits. State Sen. Frank Kloucek, D-Scotland, is seeking a seat in the state House, facing former state Rep. Ed Van Gerpen, a Republican from Avon; Democrat Kyle Schoenfish, of Scotland; and independent Lonnie Mayer, of Tripp. State Rep. Bill Van Gerpen, of Tyndall, did not run for re-election. The top-two voter getters will win the two House seats. In the Senate race, state Rep. Jim Putnam, R-Armour, is challenged by Democrat Glennis “Glenny” Stern, of Armour, a former Douglas County commissioner.By: Melanie Brandert, The Daily Republic
