On Sunday, 10 years after open-heart surgery and valve replacement, Simmons, 47, ran in and completed his first marathon.
“It was kind of my gift to myself,” said Simmons, the director of the McGovern Center for Leadership and Public Service and dean of the Dakota Wesleyan University College of Leadership and Public Service and Graduate Studies in Mitchell.
