Big first quarter leads MHS to win over Lynx

For three quarters of Saturday’s high school basketball game, Brandon Valley stifled Mitchell with a 2-3 zone defense that left Mitchell’s offense looking nearly as sluggish as in Tuesday night’s 43-36 loss to Sioux Falls Roosevelt. But this time, Mitchell did just enough damage in the first quarter to make up for what happened in the final three. The Kernels shot 64.7 percent from the field and scored 22 points in the first eight minutes, helping Mitchell hold off a late charge from the Lynx (2-5) as the Kernels picked up a 52-48 win at the Corn Palace.
