Lawsuit over Oacoma peonage case dismissed after settlements

Five Filipino immigrants have settled their federal lawsuits against a pair of Oacoma hotel owners they claim subjected them to peonage, slavery, forced labor and human trafficking.
In November 2007, a federal jury convicted Robert John Farrell and Angelita Magat Farrell, who owned a Comfort Inn and Suites, on 18 criminal charges of conspiracy to commit peonage, four counts of peonage, document servitude and visa fraud, and two counts of false statements. The Mitchell couple continue to serve their prison terms.
