Platte on a roll with help from Legion players
When it comes to the state amateur baseball tournament, it’s not unusual for teams to make use of one or two of their American Legion players. Courtesy running for the catcher is a popular option for Legion players, and some lucky ones may even get an at-bat or two late in a game. Once in awhile, a star pitcher is even called upon to make a big start on the mound. Rarely, however, is there a team that utilizes its Legion players like the Platte Killer Tomatoes are during this year’s tournament, and rarely has it paid off as much as it has for Platte.By: Matt Bunke, The Daily Republic
