‘We were poor’ during ’30s, Parkston resident recalls

PARKSTON — Life was tough in the 1930s, said Harold Tiede, but his family was used to tough.
The Great Depression just added a few extra bumps.
Tiede, whose 90th birthday is today, was raised on a farm four miles south of Parkston. There was no question about his family’s economic status.
“We were poor,” he said in the still-rich voice of a natural-born storyteller. Updated: 12/08/08 10:03am
