No cause found for fish kill
Tests to determine the cause of a large fish kill at Lake Mitchell were inconclusive, a state Department of Game, Fish and Parks fisheries official said Thursday. Todd St. Sauver, a fisheries biologist from the GF&P’s Sioux Falls office, said the U.S. Fish and Wildlife lab in Bozeman, Mont., couldn’t pinpoint a reason for the death of 1,000 to 2,000 crappies last month at the local lake. He also said that in an effort to rebuild the crappie population at Lake Mitchell, it’s likely the lake this year will be stocked with the species for the first time since 2003.By: Korrie Wenzel, The Daily Republic
