Corn Palace sign controversy: Local man plans to ask state agency for investigation
Ron Fuchs is not satisfied with the city’s handling of the Corn Palace sign controversy, and he plans to ask for a state investigation. Fuchs, of Mitchell, told The Daily Republic Wednesday that he will send a letter to the State Historic Preservation Office seeking what’s known as a “Section 11.1” investigation. He plans to mail the letter by Friday. The term “Section 11.1” refers to South Dakota Codified Law 1-19A-11.1. The law says government bodies such as the City of Mitchell may not “undertake any project which will encroach upon, damage or destroy” any property on the National Register of Historic Places until the State Historic Preservation Office “has been given notice and an opportunity to investigate and comment on the proposed project.”By: Seth Tupper, The Daily Republic
