Petition drive nets 550 names
About 550 petition signatures were turned in Tuesday afternoon at City Hall from residents seeking to retain a cap on the number of on-sale beer licenses in Mitchell. The City Council voted last month to repeal the cap, but that action will be suspended and a referendum election will be scheduled if at least 466 of the petition signers are verified as registered voters in Mitchell. The election could be scheduled to coincide with a Sept. 18 election on a tax increase for an events center.By: Seth Tupper, The Daily Republic
