N.D., S.D. miles apart on hemp issue
As two North Dakota farmers prepare to go to court in their pursuit to grow industrial hemp without federal interference, North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson says he can’t understand why South Dakota would have reservations about legalizing hemp. “If South Dakota is reluctant, they should not be,” Johnson said this week. “There is just not opposition in North Dakota.” Farmers Dave Monson, who also is a Republican state representative in North Dakota, and Wayne Hauge are suing the federal Drug Enforcement Administration for the right to grow industrial hemp, a plant similar to marijuana. The lawsuit was filed Monday.By: Austin Kaus, The Daily Republic
