New cars put a 'charge!' into police fleet

Several thumbs-up signs from admiring local residents have convinced Mitchell police officers that their two new 2007 Dodge Chargers are a hit. The Charger, known to automobile enthusiasts as a “muscle car,” was popularized in the late 1970s TV series “The Dukes of Hazzard.” During the show’s six-year run, a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T dubbed “The General Lee” and driven by lead characters Bo and Luke Duke was routinely chased by inept county sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane. Perhaps because of the fame of the Charger brand, or maybe just because of its muscular design, the new Mitchell police Chargers have gotten quite a response.
