Eight restraining orders, other violations on long rap sheet

Civil and criminal court papers show that a man who kidnapped his two children and a stepchild from their grandmother’s house in rural Ethan Thursday night had a long history of criminal charges and abusive behavior. Pursued by police, Lyle Edward Doering, 42, of Sioux Falls and with Mitchell ties, died Thursday when the car he was driving crashed into a tree near Bridgewater. Two children died in the crash as well, and a third was injured. The specifics of custody between Doering and the children’s mother are not known.
