Driver in fatal crash had history of law trouble
The man who abducted three children and led police on a deadly chase Thursday had a criminal history and was dangerous, Hanson County Sheriff Mark Kessler said Friday. After reviewing video tape and recordings from the chase, Kessler said the decision by Deputy Mitch Wilcox to pursue Lyle Edward Doering was the right one, given the circumstances. “I have reviewed every piece of videotape and recordings,” said Kessler. “Throughout these tapes, you will hear (Mitch) say, ‘I am back a quarter mile. I don’t want to push it because the kids are in the vehicle.’ (Wilcox) is a father and a grandfather. He knew the situation and he continued to pursue the vehicle. “I would have not let him stop.”By: Sarah Dittmer, The Daily Republic
