South Dakota is wonderfully proactive when it comes to dealing with the issue of drinking and driving. The past two legislative sessions have brought life to legislation that buckles down on people who drink and drive. Legislators made the right decision in 2006 when they voted to require mandatory blood withdrawals from all motorists arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. South Dakota became only the second state in the nation to require people suspected of drunken driving to give blood. The other state was Nevada.
