Opinion: South Dakota Editorial Roundup
Last Thursday (May 17) representatives from Watertown and the state’s other three technical schools met in a closed meeting in Pierre with representatives of the governor’s office, Board of Regents and Dept. of Education. The purpose was to discuss ideas for the future governance of the technical schools in South Dakota. For the past two years, governance of the technical schools has been debated, discussed and finally, not changed. But the issue is far from over. Last spring a bill was introduced which created a state board to govern the tech schools and represent them in Pierre, primarily for funding. That idea was turned down by the governor and his veto.
