Sports: MHS coaches among lowest paid in ESD
It becomes clear when taking a look at salaries for varsity head coaches in the Eastern South Dakota Conference that the Mitchell School District is behind most of the other schools in the eight-member conference. For the 2006-07 school year, Mitchell’s base salaries for volleyball, track and football were the lowest in the conference. In boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball, the base salary for MHS was the second-lowest. In wrestling, Mitchell had the sixth-highest base salary. The one school that is ahead of all others in coaching salaries is Watertown. The district has the highest base salary in football, boys’ basketball, track, girls’ basketball and wrestling. Watertown has the fourth-highest salary for volleyball. Brandon Valley has the highest-paid volleyball coach in the conference at $5,938 in base salary.By: Andy Rennecke, The Daily Republic
