Sports: Off and running at Howard Wood Dakota Relays

Jerrell Hancock of Anoka, Minn., easily won the 200-meter dash boys’ special event at the 83rd Howard Wood Dakota Relays Friday in Sioux Falls. Hancock ran a time of 22.19 to outlast Winner’s Chas DeMers, who ran a 22.61. DeMers is the defending Class A state champion in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. DeMers, who is headed to the University of Wisconsin next year on a track scholarship, was the lone Mitchell-area athlete to compete in the special event. DeMers’ best time this season in the 200 was a 21.6 and Hancock’s was a 21.54.
