Sports: Mehlbrech leads Cougars in win over Red Cloud

McCook Central rebounded from a tough first round Class A state tournament loss with a 64-43 win over Red Cloud Friday in a consolation semifinal game. The Cougars looked like they would run away with the game early as they started the game with a 9-0 run. But, Red Cloud fought back outscoring the Cougars 8-2. Red Cloud’s Ida Clarke missed a chance to tie it with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter, but McCook capitalized with a field goal to make the score 13-8 in its favor at the end one.
