Open fields issue raised again in Legislature
Since 2002, Conservation Officer Andy Petersen has been patrolling Davison and Hanson counties, checking hunters for license compliance, visiting with landowners and enforcing wildlife laws in the region’s vast countryside. In those five years, he says he hasn’t had any trouble with landowners who don’t want him on their property. He also said he doesn’t understand how he could do his job without that access. “Our job would be impossible,” said Petersen. “There would be no way to regulate the state’s resources. If someone can shut off their land without any kind of (law) checking, they could do whatever they want out there.”By: Korrie Wenzel, The Daily Republic
