Teamwork gives No. 2 Warriors success

The Winner High School football team can define team effort this season. The No. 2-ranked team in Class 11B sitting at 7-0 doesn’t need a superstar to have success. It has had 12 players find the end zone.

MENNO — The last thing Austin Herrboldt wanted to do was leave his team on senior night. The quarterback for the Menno High School football team missed the second quarter on Friday night after suffering a deep bone bruise on his throwing elbow. But he eventually made his way back to the field to rally his team from 12 points down to beat Marion 40-38 in Menno.

On Mitchell’s final offensive play in its loss to Rapid City Central, quarterback Matt Larson was tackled for a 3-yard loss on fourth-and-8. Not only did the Kernels lose possession of the football, but they lost their starting quarterback for at least one game.
