An event designed to bring shutterbugs together from across the state is happening next month in Mitchell.
The second annual Camera Club Roundup, sponsored by the Mitchell Camera Club and the Central South Dakota Photography Club, will be held April 13 throughout Mitchell.
“This is an event to get the camera clubs together, meet other photographers in the state, and have a day of shooting,” event organizer Betsy Petersen said.
The event gives participants a chance to shoot a variety of assignments throughout the day and discuss photography with other enthusiasts in the state. It is open to anyone who is interested in photography, but participants need to bring their own equipment.
Ten photography opportunities will be available during the roundup, including the Hairball concert, a classic car and motorcycle shoot, and a night photography session. Entry fees for museum and concert photo shoots will need to be paid by the participant.
This is the second year for the event, which had about 20 people attend last year.
“It’s a self-guided type of photography,” Peterson said. “We give you ideas and times throughout the day of places to go and shoot, and you spend as much time as you want there.”
After the roundup is over, the Mitchell Camera Club will allow attendees to upload and share their photos from the roundup via its website, where online registration is also available.
A block of rooms has been set up for participants at the Thunderbird Motel, the Hampton Inn and the Ramada Inn.
