Due to unfavorable weather conditions, the Dakota Wesleyan University baseball and softball teams’ schedules have been altered.
The baseball team’s home opener vs. Valley City State University, originally scheduled to be a pair of doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday, has been canceled. The Tigers are scheduled to host Briar Cliff University Thursday.
The softball team, which was scheduled to play its first Great Plains Athletic Conference game Saturday at Hastings College, had its conference opener pushed back.
The new date for the game is 5 p.m. April 25. DWU was also scheduled to play York College in a nonconference doubleheader in York, Neb., but those games were also canceled. Wesleyan travels to play Northwestern College Tuesday in Orange City, Iowa.
DWU golf teams to host fundraiser tournament

The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s golf programs will host the Tiger Golf Scramble fundraiser tournament April 20 at Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell.
The tournament is designed to help raise money for the golf programs. The cost is $60 per person, which includes green fees, cart fees, one raffle ticket, pin prizes and a post-tournament meal.
Corporate sponsorships are available for $300. This includes the same benefits as the single person ticket, but also will include a corporate sign displayed at the tournament, the corporate name announced at the tournament, a four-person company team.

DWU’s Klein takes third at archery indoor nationals

Dakota Wesleyan University senior Raeanne Klein finished third in the adult female bowhunter freestyle division at the National Field Archery Association indoor national meet in Louisville, Ky., last weekend.
The Gregory native shot a total score of 598 95x for in her two days of competition. Klein was just one of six archers to shoot 598 or higher while competing against archers from the age of 18 to 54.
DWU women take first, men third at first meet

WINFIELD, Kan. — The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s golf team opened its season with a win at the South Central Kansas Spring Invite Tuesday.
The Tigers won by one stroke over Seminole State Community College. DWU shot 333 on the first day and a 345 on day two, finishing the two-day tournament with a total of 678. Seminole State trailed DWU by eight after the first day but shot a 338 in the second round pull within one.
DWU’s Chelsea Burback finished fourth to lead the Tigers and Lauren Fitts tied for fifth place. The pair was tied after the first day, shooting 79s. Burback shot an 85 and Fitts shot an 86 on the second day.
Jenna Winckler finished 12th with a 173, Talia Peters shot a 177 for 17th place and Natalie Turner was 19th with a 179.
Southwestern’s Hannah Mason took first with a 157, winning by six strokes.
On the men’s side, the Tigers took third with a two-day total of 611. Bethany College won the tournament with a 592 and Southwestern was second with a 604.
Austin Hieb led the Tiger men with a second-place finish and was named to the all-tournament team. Hieb shot a 72 on day one and a 75 in the second round for a 147 in the tournament.
Following Hieb, Mac Young tied for 11th with a 153, Tommy Anderson tied for 19th with a 156, Tyler Burr tied for 21st with a 157 and Josh Korn finished in 31st place with a 160.
Bethany College’s Ben Johnson won the men’s tournament with a 144, outshooting Hieb by three strokes.
Mitchell Kernels knocked out of USA Today mascot regional competition

The Mitchell Kernel mascot did not win in the Region 4 voting in the USA Today High School Sports’ best mascot contest, which ended this week.
Cornelius earned 16,737 votes in the nine-team field. That landed the Kernel mascot in seventh place.
The Orphans, of Centralia, Ill., won the regional voting with 5,440,844 votes.
Cornelius was named South Dakota’s best high school mascot in statewide voting earlier this year.
Chamberlain, Winner land two on Big Dakota first-team list

The Chamberlain and Winner boys’ basketball teams each have two players on the all-Big Dakota first team, announced today.
Skyler Bertram and Gage Basting are Chamberlain’s representatives, while Isiah Old Lodge and Ben Connot are the Winner players to make the first team.
Joining the four players on the first team are Xavier Norris and Cray Allen, of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, Todd County’s Zach Cox and Kellen Herman, Daniel Roberts, Mitch Heumiller and Zach Dockter, of Mobridge-Pollock, and Miller’s Lee Sivertson.
Players named all-conference honorable mention were Chamberlain’s Reuben Estes, Winner’s Tanner Fritz, Kevin Anderson of Stanley County, Hehaka Nunpa of Todd County, Payton Tiokasin of McLaughlin and Miller’s Drew Beilke.
Trojans land four on Little Missouri all-conference list

Four Parkston boys’ basketball players were named to the Little Missouri Valley all-conference team, it was announced recently.
Spencer Lucas, Jalen Hurley, Kyle Hohn and Tanner Weber all garnered all-conference honors for the Trojans, who finished 12-10 overall.
Wagner was not far behind the Trojans, placing three on the list. Noah St. Pierre, Chris Kuca and Will Hollmann are the Red Raiders’ three representatives.
Also on the list are Avon’s Logan Mudder and Brandon Kocmich. Darrin Hopkins and Neulan Dion of Andes Central, Austin Barlow and Trevor Payer of Tripp-Delmont/Armour, Bon Homme’s Scott Van Winkle and Scotland’s Garrett Kotalik were also voted to the all-conference team.
P-G, Wagner, Chamberlain land 3 on SESD team

Platte-Geddes, Wagner, Chamberlain and Parkston each had three players voted to the South Eastern South Dakota boys’ basketball all-conference team, announced this week.
The Platte-Geddes trio includes Coby Johnson, Richard Sternberg and Tate Van Zee.
Skyler Bertram, Reuben Estes and Gage Basting earned all-conference nods for Chamberlain.
Noah St. Pierre, Chris Kuca and Dylan Brunsing were voted in for Wagner.
Jalen Hurley, Spencer Lucas and Kyle Hohn of Parkston were named to the list.
Bon Homme’s Scott Van Winkle and Mike Mesman and Gregory’s Jaden Bartling also garnered all-conference honors.
Miller earns 281 boys’ basketball conference honors

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Nick Miller was named to the 281 all-conference boys’ basketball first-team, announced Wednesday.
Miller, a senior, was the Blackhawks’ only player voted to the first-team. Joining Miller of the conference first team list is Wolsey-Wessington’s Lorenzo Williams and Hayden Hooks, James Valley Christian’s Adam Hofer and Nathan Wendel and Trent Hofer of Hitchcock-Tulare.
Players named to the all-conference second-team are Wolsey-Wessington’s Ryan Sprecher and Roy Lumpkin, Brady Brockel of Sunshine Bible Academy, Hitchcock-Tulare’s Dan Marshall and James Valley Christian’s Andrew Ulvestad.
Players named to the all-conference third-team are Hitchcock-Tulare’s Landon Gatzke, Wolsey-Wessington’s Alex Babcock, Highmore-Harrold’s Hadley Hamlin and Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Todd Stekl and Davion Brooks.
Players named all-conference honorable mention are James Valley Christian’s Leon Brondsema and Alex Waldner, Brian LaDue of Sunshine Bible Academy, Erick Wehlander of Iroquois, Hitchcock-Tulare’s Landon Bushong, Braden Jones of Wessington Springs and Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Tyler Krueger.
Selland, Moore get 281 first-team conference nods

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Shelby Selland and Rachelle Moore were voted to the first-team 281 girls’ all-conference, it was announced Wednesday.
With the help of Selland and Moore, the Blackhawks finished in fifth place at the Class B state tournament.
Joining Selland and Moore on the first-team are Highmore-Harrold’s Cortney Keller and McKenzie Zilverberg and James Valley Christian’s Jaclyn Loban.
Players named to the all-conference second-team are Tara Nihart of James Valley Christian, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Marissa Weber, Sheyanne Brodkorb of Wessington Springs, Tricia Wilken of Sunshine Bible Academy and Hitchcock-Tulare’s Taylor Knippling.
Players named to the all-conference third-team are Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Rachel Selland and Myah Selland, Hitchcock-Tulare’s Molly Koester, Highmore-Harrold’s Tyann Hamlin and Devin Tebay of Wessington Springs.
Players named all-conference honorable mention are Highmore-Harrold’s Sydney Cowan, Hitchcock-Tulare’s Heather Barrie, Shyanne Kopfman of Wessington Springs, Hannah Loban of James Valley Christian, Wolsey-Wessington’s Megan Eggleston and Shanna Moreland of Sunshine Bible Academy.
