Mitchell woman charged with possession of a controlled substance

A Mitchell woman was arrested March 15 for allegedly taking another person’s prescription for hydrocodone and having it refilled.
Laura Ann Hawes, 37, is charged with possession of a controlled substance by theft, a felony with a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
According to court documents, Hawes took another person’s prescription hydrocodone bottle and refilled it without that person’s permission at Lewis Drug. Hydrocodone is a prescription pain medication.
Hawes is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
