Alcohol sting catches one Mitchell business

One of 15 Mitchell businesses failed alcohol compliance checks conducted Friday by the South Central Alcohol Task Force.

The failure was at Cubby’s East. The clerk did not check the confidential informant’s identification, but still made the sale of alcohol to the confidential informant. This is Cubby’s East’s first failure within a 24-month period.

On a first offense, if a business that sells alcohol to a minor has passed a certified alcohol management class, the state can fine that business $500. On a second offense within 24 months, the business is fined $1,000. If the seller has not passed the class, the fines are doubled. For a third offense in a 24-month period, the South Dakota Department of Revenue can suspend the business’ liquor license for up to 14 days.

The following businesses were checked and passed: Amstar, The Depot, VFW Post 2750, EZ$ Pub, Village Bowl/Sneakers Peanut Bar, Dakota Sunset, Shay’s, County Fair Food and Fuel, Walgreens, Pizza Hut, Chef Louie’s, Highland Conference Center, Walmart and Whiskey Creek.
